The picture above is of a horse named Sunshine, one of many horses at Harris Horse Rescue. Many race horses when they retire from off of the track, they go to the slaughter houses. Almost more times than less they go to slaughter houses because Quarter horses are easily replaceable. Sometimes when the race horses retire they have some kind of issue, or injury and cannot be ridden again. Many horse owners do not want a pasture horse, they want a riding horse. There are many rescues out there that go to auctions and try to save as many horses as they can so they do not go to the slaughter house. There needs to be more rescues like this out there, that give the retired horses what they deserve, a life of love, food, and a green pasture to run in. Horses that do go to the rescues many times are still up for adoption, and some do get adopted. I know when I go to get my own horse in the near future I will be rescuing a horse, maybe not a retired race horse as I think once they retire they should become a pasture horse, but I want to rescue a horse from the slaughter house. Maybe even go to an auction myself, but knowing me I’d come home with more horses than I bargained for.
Good for you!
ReplyDeleteI had a horse when I was younger named Princess. I couldn't imagine ever taking her to a slaughter house. It's terrible that they can do this to them sweet innocent animals. I hope they end it soon because they don't deserve it what-so-ever.
